Lichten Architects is an architecture and design firm

based in New Yorkwith a portfolio comprised of residential, cultural and institutional projects. While Lichten offers fresh and modern solutions, our work is typically contextualized within local and stylistic traditions, reflecting the needs and tastes of the client.

We understand that no two projects are alike in their requirements and execution. We are accustomed to complex programming and client priorities. Our projects frequently have demanding schedules and tolerate minimal disruption to the patterns of everyday life.

The success of Lichten Architects’ projects can perhaps best be attributed to the strength of our design vision -- classic yet inventive, chic yet relaxed. Recent work includes the award-winning design of the cafe and aquatics center of a Chicago private club;  the restoration and expansion of a house off of New York’s Fifth Avenue, a project that included the excavation of the building to create a sky-lit glass mosaic and limestone clad pool; a new mountain house and the renovation of the library, theatre, and twelve houses in the historic community of Onteora, NY; and recent projects in Chicago’s Palmolive Building; Ritz Residences; and historic Lake Shore Drive buildings.
